Lisa See: Shanghai Girls: A Novel
For a person who has been researching chinese history in Globe, this book offers such a human insight into what it was really like to grow up Chinese - first in Shanghai before it was overrun by the Japanese - and then in LA Chinatown. I loved the book. It is a good read. And educational - if you into that. (****)
